Syrups are flavour enhancers that are commonly used in various beverages like coffee, cocktails and numerous cold or hot drinks. They are also popular for adding a depth of flavour to desserts and baked goods. Syrups not only add flavour they are also a sweetening agent that is easier to blend into ingredients and beverages than regular sugar. It is also an ideal glaze when drizzled over desserts.

What is syrup?
Syrup is a liquefied sugar that is flavoured with concentrate additives giving each version a unique taste. These additives enhance the taste of the food or beverage they’re added to providing a richer and more complex consumption experience when used correctly.
Syrups can be made by dissolving sugar in water or by reducing natural juices from fruits, sorghum, maples or agave. Corn syrup can also be used by using an enzyme-converting process that converts corn starch into sugars.
Different types of syrup additives
Syrups, purees, and sauces are condiments that give a punch of flavour to any beverage or food menu item when used correctly.
Syrups
Simple syrups occasionally referred to as bar syrups, are commonly made from equal parts of sugar and water combined until the sugar is fully dissolved. This is a common sweetening agent because it is very fluid, making it easier to blend within a mixture – most commonly beverages. The reference to bar syrup is simply because it is the sweetener of choice by bartenders when it comes to making cocktails.
Flavoured syrups are concocted with an array of blends using infused herbs, spices and aromatics. They add an extra depth of flavour to beverages and meals.

Drinks and food you can give a kick with syrup
There's an infinite number of uses for syrups, purees and sauces. You're only limited by your imagination when it comes to using these flavour enhancers and sweeteners. The one piece of advice we give is that you need to nail your measurements when you find the perfect dose of flavour and you need to ensure this is consistent across all your servings. One way to achieve this is with the right application tools and measurement utensils.
Syrup applicators
The secret to successfully serving syrup is ensuring a consistent application. These syrups pack a flavourful punch and it doesn’t take much of a variation in measurement for your servings to differ. Invest in appropriate puree or syrup pumps and stipulate the measurement required for consistent flavour. Another reason to ensure this is to avoid spoilage and monitor use to counteract increased overhead costs due to poor measurements.
